The Surnames of Ireland
Edward MacLysaght
More than 4,000 Gaelic, Hiberno-Norman, and Anglo-Irish surnames are listed. Ireland was one of the earliest countries to develop a system of hereditary surnames. The Surnames of Ireland is a detailed and compact guide giving a wealth of information on the background of Irish family names.
This book, which was first published in 1957 and now is in its sixth edition, and reprinted for the fourth time, remains the definitive record of Irish surnames, their etymology, and their linguistic and regional origins.
Note: This is a real scan of the book, not a copy-paste of bad OCR. This has been re-OCRed with Tesseract's best data sets, and (though not perfect) is a more accurate OCR job than the copy available from Internet Archive.
